Thanks:
Thanks to God, obviously. I can’t believe I made a rap CD. But that’s just it, I didn’t… He did. He put all the pieces together to make it happen. He put all those words in my head. My hope and prayer is that they go out into the world and do some good.
Thanks to Cassie, my wife, for putting up with me staying up late to work on songs, for being a support and a constructive critic and for lending her voice to so many tracks.
Thanks to Antonio for being an encouragement for me to get back into the studio and record and for his valued opinion on several tracks and his voice on track #14.
Thanks to my dad for helping me build a recording studio in the basement. From dorm room to bedroom… finally having a designated space to record made a world of difference.
There are so many people that God has put into my life that have added to my desire to minister in this way. I want to thank everyone who has helped to inspire me and the music.
Lastly, thanks to everyone who helps this ministry financially by buying CD’s or t-shirts. I believe the message is important to get out, but there are a lot of costs that go along with producing a work like this so I appreciate all the help I can get.

Track 1: Are You Ready    (3:13)
Music, lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver

Intro: He is coming back and He is gonna claim His own, you better get ready and get prepared so He will take you home, you know that is coming back and He is gonna claim His own, you better get ready and get prepared so He will take you home…

Chorus A:
Are you ready for the coming of the Christ?
Are you ready for the thief in the night?
Are you ready? Are you walking the light?
Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready?
Chorus B:
Are you ready to give up all pain?
Are you ready for a joy you can’t explain?
Are you ready for your body to be changed?
Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready?

Verse 1:
Are you ready for the sheep and the goats – got a lump in your throat – when from braggin and boast – to the one on his knees – beggin’, “God please, - overlook all of my devilish deeds!
Are you ready for the judgement day? What foundation did you lay? Are you building with gold, silver, stones, wood, hey? When you pass through the fire what will remain?

Chorus A

Verse 2:
Start goin’ the right direction – get Jesus in your life, a quick injection – break down the walls and stop rejectin’ – open up your arms and accept Him.
There’s only one way to go, only one hand to hold, only one narrow road – so walk in the light.- Be a sheep in the fold, more precious than gold – focus on the goal, Jesus in sight.

Chorus A
Chorus B

Verse 3:
There’s a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it just leads to destruction – don’t be like the engine, “I think I can” – but put your hope in God and know the plan – what good is it if the world is gained – but you subject your life to eternal flames? - That’s just a choice that you can’t explain – made by the flesh not the spiritual brain.

Chorus A

Verse 4:
You’re frightened – you’re scared – you’re unprepared – stand in front of God where its all laid bare – your actions – your sins – all that’s within – your heart – your mind – its not a good sign – you need some help – maybe a Savior – thank God for His love cuz that’s what He gave ya – if you act now, accept grace – change your fate - but if you keep a slow pace, hesitate – too late.

Chorus A
Chorus B

Track 2: Better Man (4:33)
Music, lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver

Verse 1:
I died to myself but I rise every morning – a new man with new life – it never gets boring – eyes opened wide to see what’s in store and - every new day, you know I be explorin’ – I search your word and it lights my path – It guides me through the valley of the shadow of death – I search my soul to remove the trash – only faith and hope and love will last – so I hold on to them and get rid of the rest – I get it off my heart, yeah, get it off my treasure chest – it’s reserved to store the divine – fire in my soul, yeah my soul gets refined -  constantly cleansed by the blood of the Christ – reminding myself that His blood will suffice – it’s tempting to try other avenues – cuz the world has a different take on “good” news – its all lies but sometimes I believe ‘em – it’s a shame cuz I really don’t have a good reason – my heart betrays, its on trial for treason – I need to be prepared both in and out of season – believing that God’s gonna come through – in the end, cuz my God’s tried and true - in the middle, cuz my God’s showed and proved – right now- faith is what I gotta do – right now its time to take hold of the promise – be strong like a Rock, not doubting like a Thomas - straight like a square, not crooked like a rhombus – to be like you not this garbage around us…

Chorus:
You make me feel, better than I am
You make me want to be, be a better man

Verse 2:
I’m always falling down but you pick me up – get me off the ground and you give me a shove – back into the light – I know it must be tough – to forgive and forget – but for you that’s not enough – see I come up short - but you make me taller – I fail the test, but you raise my grade - when I owe too much, you don’t loan me a dollar – you sent your Son on the cross and my debt was paid – it’s amazing the love that overflows – the grace that replaces the hate in my bones - I can’t believe that in spite of me you still chose to invite me to the feast and gave me the wedding clothes-

Chorus x2

Verse 3:
Cards and calls and invitations – I know its hard, these stipulations – to follow God with no vacations – to play the part and resist temptations – my inclination is to the flesh – my life, my soul put to the test – I had to hand the old man death - and my God breathed in me the new breathe – its still my choice how I walk each step – but He gave me a voice to help me be my best – when I think of the nails that were forced through His wrists – I make my mind up and I wind up telling you this… my God…

Chorus to fade

Track 3: Faith (3:24)
Music, lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver

Verse 1:
Lord I believe, but I don’t – please help me to see, what I won’t – my unbelief makes me the chief of the weak – I wanna hide – but you tell me to seek and I’ll find – but my mind doesn’t think that its time to trust (trust you) - I haven’t seen my treasure rust quite yet – so it’d be hard to bet – on the promises you’ve made – on the things that you’ve said – except if I tell myself the truth – I’d be reminded, that I don’t need proof – I’m hind-sighted – 20/20 is the vision that I’m digging – but I’m beginning to review the labels I’m pinning on you - on me - on truth - on needs – my meat is to do the will of the Father and I’ll feed off that – it don’t even matter as a matter of fact.

Chorus:
I believe in the things that I don’t see
I don’t need proof, faith is the evidence
I got all that I need to convict me
But I’m set free, faith is the evidence

Verse 2:
Lord I want to see, but I’m blind – got blinds in front of me – in front of my eyes – but shade isn’t good for a child of light – got fixed on the wrong kinds – the wrong time of night - but I’ll put up a fight for my sight to be fixed on you- like glue – not shoes - not booze – not school – not rules – not fools – not being cool – not being full of myself – my ways, my wants – I hate the days that Satan taunts – with rocks that he says to turn to bread – images of earthly wealth fill my head - and I get hungry, I need to be fed – but I’m reminded that Jesus bled - and died so I’d be satisfied – just follow His steps and give up my life.

Chorus

Refrain:
Faith is the evidence of things unseen
Faith is my trust that is showed by my deeds
Faith is what makes the shy man speak
Faith is when strength is displayed by the weak
Faith is what keeps my weak knees poised
Faith is the grace that I have in my choice
Faith is the seed that throws mountains to seas
Faith, over the world, is my victory

Chorus

Track 4: The Passion (3:50)
Music by EnigmaOmega*, “Renaissance”
Music slightly mixed by Robert Shaver
Lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver

Jesus:     Betrayed by a kiss - I was expecting this
but from one of my own - it still cuts to the bone

Peter put away your sword - don’t you think that the Lord
could call down His angels and save me from dangers?
He’ll never fail me but you’ll be a stranger

but this is how it must be - my time has come
you know I’m not guilty - but all this was done
to fulfill what the scriptures and what the prophets said
you stand strong now - but you’ll leave me for dead

they’ll take me and try me but you won’t be behind me
by the time the cock crows three times you’ll deny me
Priest:     call the next witnesses - let us put an end to this
King of the Jews? I’ll make your throne a crucifix

Jesus:     It’s true what you say, I am Gods’ Son

Priest:     Blasphemy! Now you’re really done

Jesus:     No, when I’m done, I’ll sit down with my Father in heaven

Priest:     Shut Up! I’m gonna stop the lies your spreading

Crowd:   crucify Him (x4)

Narrator:
they took Him and they stripped Him
they beat Him and they whipped Him
they crowned Him and clocked Him
they spat on and mocked Him
carry your own cross - feel the pain
you’ve had your glory - feel the shame
King is how they hailed Him
but criminal they nailed Him - to the cross

Jesus, from the cross:
one nail at a time they hang the divine
thorns on my head - they feed me sour wine
I’m innocent but I’ll die for your crimes
because I love you more than you will ever grasp in your mind

I am the true judge but they treat me like a criminal
I am God’s Son - but to them that’s immaterial
I AM the I AM - but all they see is a man
they won’t concede, they don’t believe
that God’s plan - could be me (Jesus Christ)
                born inside a stable
the son of a carpenter could never be able
to cast out demons, to heal the broken
to forgive men’s sins with words spoken
(Father forgive them for they know not what they do)

My God, my God why have you forsaken me?
Why can’t you take this cup away from me
this is my final plea - don’t leave but give me peace
and free me from the cursed tree -
                I cannot breathe -
                I cannot believe -
I’m losing versus gravity but I’m supposed to be the King of Kings
I can’t understand why this must happen to me
Father is this really how it has to be?

I’m hanging here Dad and I need you now
but it seems you’ve turned your back and I can’t see how
this sin is too great its too much for me to bear
why does it seem to me like you just don’t care?

I’ll cry one final cry - please Father hear it
Into your hands I commit my spirit
                (scream)

Jesus, risen from the grave:
three days in the grave can’t hold me
amazed? For heaven’s sake get to know me
I was raised to be raised
let the scoffs turn to praise
rider on the white horse - I’m the Ancient of Days
conquered death and I stood in your place
now the only thing left for you is my grace
About face! Start running the race
fix your eyes on the prize - heavenly gates
I’m gonna give you a little taste of the milk and honey
a ticket to the Promised Land straight from me
come hitch a ride - to Heaven or bust
if you love me you’ll lead my sheep that’s a must

I’m the chief cornerstone and I’m cuttin my rocks
to form my Holy temple I’m buildin’ my blocks
invested and I’m risin my stocks
the church is bigger and stronger than fortknox
and her treasure is far greater
                forget the hater
Satan’s just a player trying to steal your fate
he’ll seduce you, but don’t take the bait
because he just wants to steal your life

But I came and I died once
          I rose to the triumph
of crushing all my enemies under my feet
so I sit down and relax - kick’en’em up
and when evil attacks we stickin’em up
you’ll be my witnesses - first here and then there
then the Holy Spirits gonna come and show you where
                keep making me proud
                keep living life loud
and look for me - (I’ll be) coming in the clouds

Track 5: We Got This (4:58)
Music by Shadowville Productions*, “Guerilla Instrumental”
Lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver
Additional vocals by Cassie Shaver

Chorus: We’ve got the truth to spread (we’ve got the truth, we’ve got the truth, we’ve got the truth)
We’ve got the hope to share (we’ve got the hope, we’ve got the hope, we’ve got the hope)
We’ve got the love to give (we’ve got the love, we’ve got the love, we’ve got the love)
                If only we would care
A little more for this world (If only we would care)
A little more for this world

Verse 1: Ego-centric Resistance
My life is full of these blessings – but I’m addressing the things that might be impressing -to those who seem to have more than me – I’m confessing – I get caught up in things – I’m concerned about me – what’s the best thing? – I only give my time to the interesting – to what I consume – to what I could be digesting – the petty and the poor they’re just testing – they are vying for my time and my money – all of which is mine and you better not be fronting – cuz I’ve worked hard for what I’ve got I’ll be investing – in stocks and bonds not people who are resting – on other people’s laurels – always looking for a hand out – your story’s not unique – it doesn’t even stand out – blame your situation on your parent’s abuse – or was it the drugs or booze what’s the use - your probably still addicted – still gonna get evicted – the life that you depicted was a cold, hard lie – so I would open, my wallet – you were hoping that maybe I would realize that

Chorus

Verse 2: The Prayer to place the blame
I sit in my house – or should I call it my castle? – I can go to bed tonight without a hassle – I don’t have to concern my mind with staying warm – I close my eyes, I wake up and nothing’s wrong – or has something gone arie I ask God, “God why? – Why does my cup overflow when neighbor is too poor – to even afford a cup? He goes from door to door. – got my head banging against the brick – if the Lord will provide, why don’t you heal the sick – and feed the hungry people – why don’t you flex your muscle and put an end to evil? Yeah put an end to evil.”

Extended Chorus
We’ve got the truth to spread (we’ve got the truth, we’ve got the truth, we’ve got the truth)
We’ve got the hope to share (we’ve got the hope, we’ve got the hope, we’ve got the hope)
We’ve got the love to give (we’ve got the love, we’ve got the love, we’ve got the love)
                If only we would care
A little more for this world (If only we would care)
The one for which Christ died (The one for which Christ died)
Every boy and every girl (Everyboy and every girl)
My Savior gave up His life
So that they could have life
My Savior gave up His life
So that they could have life

Verse 3: The Answer
“My son” He replied, “You are the apple of my eye – I loved you so much that I let my Son die – but love stretches farther than you, the individual – His death freed all men from sin and that’s continual – stop looking at the parts of this world in the physical – the man that you’re crying for – he’s a miracle – he’ll die in a week, but then he’ll be with me – eternally live a life that’s carefree – so don’t fret, just remember what you’re here for – more people get to heaven when on earth they’re dirt poor – it’s hard to see men struggle with their living - I’m going to help them through you who struggle with your giving – benevolence is good, but I really want their souls – so never stop with the gospel – not everybody knows – my Son was a sacrifice and that was tough – but He’s what I give and He is enough – but I’ll give more – I’ve got to protect my investment – you’ve got a good heart – stop trying to impress men – work for me, you’ll be one of my best men – by faith, hope and love I’ll give to you and you to them

Chorus

Track 6: We Need Hope     (4:03)
Lyrics by: Robert Shaver
Music by: Ministry of Sound, “No Way Out”*
Vocals by: Robert Shaver and Quinton Harvey

Intro:
I put my ear to the streets and I hear the sound, its like a rumbling cryin out from the ground – ghetto children with the American dream – in a nightmare, they wake you up when they scream:

We need hope (repeated in background)
There’s no way out – there’s no place to go – there’s no body on our side – there’s no reason for hope – you take away our toys and you give us your guns - you take away our choice and pollute us with drugs – but what we really need is kisses and hugs - and what we really need is somebody interested in us – there’s nobody on our side – no reason for hope – there’s no way out – there’s no place to go

Verse 1:
They say the war in Iraq’s hard? There’s a war in my backyard – people getting killed for what? Drugs and gang stars? In the wrong place – at the wrong time – he wore the wrong colors – he flashed the wrong sign – in the wrong hood – wrong block – thought he’d be fine – he didn’t have his boys but he’s packin a nine – it didn’t make the news because it wasn’t a crime – just another young brother at the end of his line – there’s no way out, no place for us to go – you only got three choices: to ball, to flow or to gangbang, a shame for the young man’s soul – we’d rather see him dead than to gain control – of his own life his future – maybe change the ‘hood – nurture and nature we need a little good – a positive role model, show’em the ropes – we gotta take away the pain and give these kids some hope.

Chorus

Verse 2:
They say we got freedom – can we really believe’m? - these are only little girls but is that how we treat them? – still crimpin’ their curls but their curves precede them – no one to protect them from the pervs that see them - she’s the age of your son, but you gave her a glance – her mind is still young, but her body’s advanced – you can’t take her to the dance, but you’ll give her a chance – to grow up quick, you not slick, your sick – you forced her into bed and to live in shame – she’s the one they’ll talk about, she’s the one they’ll blame – she won’t mention your name because she’s just too scared – and through all of this pain, she was strong and dared – to carry the child – maybe someone would love her – she doesn’t know who daddy is, prison’s got her mother – but when grandma sees she’s showing she starts throwing a fit – “You’re going to the clinic, I don’t want to hear your lip!”

Chorus

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness (x2)

Chorus

We need hope for the church, hope in the street, hope for the school, we need hope on TV
We need hope in the houses, hope in the malls, hope for the children, hope for us all (repeat to fade)

Track 10: Gonna Wake Up Singing (0:59)
Vocals by: Flo Price
Copyright: Word Records, Waco, TX

Track 11: Remain (4:17)
Music by: Justice Productions*, “Anything Can Stop Me”
Lyrics by Robert Shaver verses adapted from Psalm 15 and Matthew 7:24-27
Vocals by Robert Shaver

Intro: Hebrews 12:26-27 (NIV), “At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has promised, ‘Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.’ The words ‘once more’ indicate the removing of what can be shaken – that is, created things – so that what cannot be shaken will remain.”

Chorus:
My feet will remain on the solid ground
They won’t be found where its shaken
God has taken my life and I will remain

Verse 1: from Psalm 15
Who may dwell in your sanctuary – someone very willing to let go and let you carry - who can live on your holy hill there’s no skill – that can be learned just conform to your will – what will remain is a man who walks blamelessly – does what is righteous and shamelessly – speaks the truth from his heart with precision, not aimlessly – walks in the steps that Jesus walked famously – He called a man with no slander on his tongue – never does his neighbor wrong – squashes gossip that’s begun – the vile man in his eyes will be despised – but he’ll honor those who honor God and run hard for the prize – he will keep his promises, even if they bring pain – and he won’t trade integrity for monetary gain – so even when the world around him is quaking, he will hold on to God’s hand, he will not be shaken!

Chorus

Verse 2: from Jesus’ parable of the wise and foolish builders
Whoever hears these words of mine – and I find – they put them into practice – no compromise – that man is wise – the rains come, winds blow, streams rise – against the house – but it does not give out – no its stands up – because he built on the rock bed – the firm foundation of the truth that the Lord said – but all who hear these words that I say and choose not to obey – like a fool walk away – from the clay, on the sand, built your house with your hands – all the power of a man, but it could not withstand – the rains and the floods and the winds, it turned to mud – the base that you built on, even though you put stilts on it – it still fell, it fell hard – your castle is a house of cards – feeling like you should’ve started building on something hard –but that’s hard – to do what you heard – if you want to remain be a doer of His Word!

Chorus x2

Shake the heavens - shake the earth - shake the foundations – shake the governments – shake all the worlds nations – shake everyone – shake the moon and the sun – shake the houses – shake the roads –shake the stadiums – shake the movies – shake the malls – shake the banks –shake the walls – shake everything that shakes – everything that falls – shake the things that are not hiding in your name – shake the evil out of us – only righteous remain.

Chorus
I will remain (to fade)

Track 12: The Heart Prick (2:08)
Music by
Lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver

It’s the heart prick (the heart prick)
It’s the heart prick (the heart prick)

Its scary ain’t it when you can’t explain it? – the preacher gets up and he frame by frame it? Pricks your heart, the Scripture’s sharp – penetrates even where it’s hard and dark – the light illuminates- your mind enumerates the mistakes that you can’t erase or replace – the memories that haunt you – the enemies that taunt you – the sin that caught you – the good that you ought do – God should’ve offed you – luke-warm coughed you – up and out – that’s what sin cost you – but He didn’t do it – grace is amazing – I feel it in my heart – Holy Spirit blazing - my attitude is changing – everything is crazy – Jesus life for my death is replacing

It’s the heart prick (the heart prick)
It’s the heart prick (the heart prick)

It’s scary ain’t it, when you can’t explain it – with all the evidence that’s supplied by the plaintiff – you’re still found innocent – how’d you get away with it?- why’s your heart feel the prick of guilt? It makes you sick – to your stomach – because you know whodunit – and even though you killed the Lord, His death frees you from it – can my mind overcome it? – my heart rise above it? Or will the beat stop…. plummet – Godly sorrow is what leads to repentance – buried in the waters of your death sentence – Jesus Christ paid the full price – now my response must be my life

It’s the heart prick (the heart prick)
the heart prick (the heart prick)
Feel the heart prick (feel the heart prick)

Track 13: Just Cry Baby (3:55)
Music by Justice Productions* “Don’t Cry Baby”
Lyrics and Vocals by Robert Shaver
Chorus vocals by Cassie Shaver

Chorus:
Just cry baby, let the tears run down your face
Take it from me, you will be in a better place
Just hold to His hand, He will lead the right direction
Close your eyes baby, just cry

Verse 1:
Let it out, let the tears flow down – it’s okay if sobbing and weeping’s the only sound – that you make – and you ask God why – let Him hold you in His arms, sometimes you gotta cry – sometimes you gotta cry –its good to let go – it hurts to be real and healing can be slow – you don’t gotta understand but know that God knows – He’s the God of all comfort so let your tears flow

Verse 2:
I can’t believe the selfishness and greed – I stood ten feet away when you gave her the ring – and it was more than just metal, it stood for your promise – that you’d be there through thick and thin - that you’d be harmless – for richer or for poorer – for better of worse – when she’s down, you’d pick her up - when she’s sick, you’d be her nurse – but time would tell – that was your five year plan – you used to joke around about the sin of man – but it got into your head- it infected you brain – you left your God – left your wife – left a trail of pain

Verse 3:
I know this other girl – high school sweethearts - married kind of young – her family got a quick start – second baby on the way – but daddy wants to play – with his new girl – cuz she doesn’t have the baby weight – broken pieces, broken families broken hearts – followed your own will, you left her in the dark – but she is in the light and she is in the right and I don’t understand it but she prays for you at night

Chorus

If my words are my bullets – I’m bustin caps with hollow tips – everyday I’m rhyming with Christ – He’s like my endless clip – He’s gonna be my strap with a scope – making it accurate - in Jesus name that’s what we promote – rappin immaculate – thank God for it – He gave me the gift so to the booth with it - I never deceive my tracks – I’ma always put the truth with it – I always put the truth with the flow so people cope with it - we givin’ it to you straight no we ain’t sugar-coatin’ it – I never say nuttin sweet man, I’m honest just because – you know this flow is crazy – its more crazy than it ever was – livin with the shadow of death - he got you breathin slowly – if I get the spray in your chest – I got you breathin holy – don’t make me grab my Bible – open up the arsenal – I’ma start the teaching and preaching don’t take it personal – so if I get to speakin and reaching my words will help youi out – realize the power of tongue – that’s what this songs about.

Chorus:
In background: Fight of my life (repeat)
We are under attack – you know we gonna fight back
We got our gospel shoes strapped – I said my words are my bullets
We got salvation at the help – we got truth on our belts
We make opponents hearts melt – cuz His Words are my bullets
We’re gonna block with shield of faith – the righteous breastplate
Strong with prayers of the saints – yeah, I said their words are my bullets
The Spirit is my sword – keeps me always moving forward
Keeps us all in one accord – yeah Your Words are my bullets

Jerome:
The words are my bullets – the sniper rounds to stop these clowns – the demons show their fear because His words are profound – I pray the words that I tame - the spark and the bane the mark and the shame – and don’t forget the reloading sound…

Rob:
Ready…Aim… Fire in my soul – there’s a fire in my mouth – I’m a man of unclean lips – piece of coal wash’em out – loading up my clips with God’s Word and His promises – pop the gospel like pills cuz Jesus is my pharmacist – my words are my bullets, my holy ammunition – fight the good fight – I got the great commission – I was sent to speak, to stick up for the weak - you don’t even have to listen cuz my words cut and sting – but I would if I were you, I’d pay close attention – the sword will cut through your bones – divide you into sections – I’ve got my shield, I’ve got my armor of protection – you’ll be begging me for mercy but hoping that I’ll mention - the hope that you’ll have when you hope in what’s His – the hope that will save your life from the abyss – His words are my bullets, the Scriptures, they insist – you lose life to get it, Holy Spirit doesn’t miss.

Chorus

Antonio:
If my words are my bullets I need permission to pull it - And I’ma pull it with my brothers, cuz you know I do it – I got the vest on, prob’ly yes shield on good guess – I’m with my brothers and we prepared for any test.
We put our left foot out - and we show’em what we ‘bout – they seen the shots go to it – and there ain’t nothing they can do with it – you can feel it inside – Jesus Christ is alive -  why you trustin in the sin? – do you like a hot pen? –
there’s soldiers on the line and you really think that’s a joke – you oughta look around we soldiers, we play our post – you don’t wanna hit the ground cuz we doublin up the dose – bringing pressure to Satan – and pushin that player close – so I suggest you stop - and I suggest you think – the bullets that your makin…… - your life could be over homie as fast as you blink – them bullets didn’t hurt cuz them bullets are blank

Chorus

Track 15: The Good News (1:28)
Music by: Al Bravo*, “Valentia”
Lyrics and vocals by: Robert Shaver

Announcer: Good evening and welcome to the Good News, with your host Rob the gun and the Clay Sheep news team. “Today’s a good day”

Rob the Gun: Hello and welcome! Now, straight to the headlines: A storm in Jerusalem took thousands of lives. But this is good news because they chose to die, to their sinful nature, so they could find life. We’ve got a reporter now, canvassing the area, let’s check in on the hysteria…

Mr. Big Beats: Yes, thank you, Rob the Gun, this is Mr. Big Beats, trying to get a feel for the pulse on the streets. I’m talking to a man who has witnessed these events with me, please sir, describe the intensity.

Man: Well first there was a rumble and it was followed by a rush, then the wind swept through and an eerie hush. But then I..uh..um.. I thought I was insane! Tongues came down, and they were flames! They rested on these men so I started praying – but they began saying all these things about the Messiah - how it was our sins that killed Him, so I just cried and – but they said we should repent and be baptized – then people came in droves and they gave up their lives.

Mr. Big Beats: There ya have it Gun, straight from the streets. Back to you, this is Mr. Big Beats

Rob the Gun: Thank you Mr. Beats, way to man your post, but it seems to me, like that man has seen a Ghost! Ha ha ha ha! ( the Holy Ghost… get it)

Announcer: And this was the Good News with your host: Rob the Gun and the Clay Sheep news team, reminding you that today is a good day!

Remember your Creator in the days of your youth
Remember so that later you can stand in the truth
Remember your Creator in the days that you’re young
Before it’s too late and the evil days come

Keeping His commandments all the days of your life
Remember your Creator in the days of your youth
Remember so that later you can stand in the truth

Track 17: Remember Your Creator (1:36)
Music, lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver
Additional vocals by Cassie Shaver

Chorus: Remember your Creator

Verse 1:
Fear God – keep His commandments – for this is the duty of man – I can stand it – His yoke is easy – His burden is light – He gave me His Word and it starts to ignite – the flame in my heart – my passion to be holy – obeying His will so He says that He knows me – and opens the gates and lets me into heaven – where I’ll bask in the glory of His glorious presence
But only if I remember
All to Jesus surrender
While my age is still tender
I’ll remember, I’ll remember

Chorus

Verse 2:
Hide it my heart so I’ll never forget – if I get a good start, I can finish legit – keep’em in my mind – write’m in my head – the doorposts will boast the things that He said – I will be the man to stand by every – beautiful command, His decrees are a treasury – of wisdom and love that I will keep close to me – short term, long term commit to my memory

Remember your Creator

Track 18: Step One (2:25)
Music by Haos Records, Rap Beats Volume 1, Beat Nr. 01
Lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver

Step one, step two, step three, step four (x2)
Step one, start with – Rob the gun – claysheep talent show at Camp Hunt – started as a joke – it might have seemed funny – but when the light turned on I hit the ground running – I hit the crowd gunning – Bible bullets whizzing by their heads – do they get what I said? - It will take time to mature in the rhyme – they prefer lines that tow the vibes that they know. Step two – develop the crew – an unlikely cast of character who – will bring it – they will sing it – let their names change to things like “Oven Mit” – Big John, Trav and Kak all got my back – Ryan stepped it up to the foreground – we brought to new sound – to Albany – a perfect harmony with A Common Destiny – Step three – make a CD – in the dorm room – at OVC – it will be, “The Big Bang Theory” – preach the Words of God to the beats of hip-hop – and don’t stop with the pad and the pen – cause two years later you would do it again – “The Revolution of the Gun” evolution of a son – working to completion of the work that was begun – Step four – God keeps opening doors – what’s already happened is just par for the course – foundations laid but the works not done – he needs to find a faithful son – like Paul and Timothy – Loyalty’s the one – if you build it they will come – passing the torch, he’ll take the reigns – he’s got the hip-hop gospel flowing through his veins – growing up comes with aches and pains – but we’ll risk for reward ‘cause our God reigns – then along came ‘Rell – battle against hell – words to worship God, but he don’t need to yell – pick you apart with precision and clarity – then put you back together with a little “Soul Therapy” - the rest is history, a mystery to man –but we believe that this was all God’s plan
Step one, step two, step three, step four (to end)

Track 19: Spread My Wings (3:13)
Music by Robert Shaver
Vocals by Robert Shaver
Intro vocals by Cassie Shaver
Chorus clip by OVC Express

Intro:
I just want to spread my wings and fly (x4)

Chorus
I’m gonna spread my wings and fly
I’m gonna spread my wings and fly
I’m gonna spread my wings and fly……
I’m gonna fly…..

Verse 1:
Yo –I’m gonna spread my wings and I’ll fly – I’m gonna sing I’m redeemed ‘till I die – I’m gonna be – you know at least I’m gonna try – working hard to remove these logs from my eyes – wings clipped – lost my grip – there’s no hope for this man – the plan – abandon ship – he’s going down, down – and never will be found – to the place where the ghosts run the town - its like the prodigal son, before he came home – lost and hungry and dead and all alone – words in his head were said in ill tone – I’ve dug my own grave and the seed’s been sown – so now I have to reap, the harvest of the late – and now I have to sleep in this bed that I made – should I hang my head and wish that I was dead or should I rise to defy - spread my wings and fly?
Chorus

Verse 2:
Sin so easily entangles – wraps around your neck and strangles – sucks the life out of your life – steals your soul like a thief in the night – so here we go, we’re casting off – we’re on a roll. We’re blasting off – we’re no longer babes, being tossed and tossed – by the waves of deceit of the desperate lost – we will not shrink back – we will rise and attack – we’ll be strong cuz in the Lord is where we’re at – we got our armor on without a chink or a crack – we’ll put our hands to the plow and we’ll never look back -we will fix our eyes on the Son Most High – we will not grow weary – we will only rise – we will spread our wings and you know we’ll fly – we will soar and we’ll meet Him in the sky

Chorus

Track 20: Rejuvenation (4:02)
Music, lyrics and vocals by Robert Shaver

Verse1:
I don’t need any more suggestions – I don’t need answers – hold your questions – one at a time to avoid congestion – in my trial, I don’t need testing – testing testing 1-2-3 – all your fingers point at me – just leave me ‘lone – just let me be – its not what I want – its not what I need – to give it a go – just because you tried it – I don’t need to accept or deny it – I don’t need to try a new diet and I don’t just need some peace and quiet – I don’t need rest or to take it easy – I don’t need fake and I don’t need cheesy – stop messin’ around I don’t need you to tease me – I feel sick, my soul is queasy – believe me, I’m trying to achieve peace – I can’t make the fire in my heart cease – I went from the driver to the backseat – I feel like a fat kid at a track meet – the wrong ways often attract me – the wrong things often distract me – excuse me sir, only the facts please – stop complaining, let me tell you what I need!

Chorus:
I need rejuvenation (x4)

Verse 2:
Please Lord – I’m coming on my knees Lord – up and down, my life is like a see-saw – I see for – miles and miles – but all I see is – trials and trials – so I put my head down ‘n’ started plowin – only lifting every now and again – just to check - to see my progress – and when I did I was less than impressed – I gave my best, but regress – so I beat my chest and scream – “Wake me up from this dream!” – it’s a nightmare, are things really as they seem? – I’ve been swimming hard – but upstream – I know that this is selfish of me – I need to lay down my life and give it all to the King – my greed – was a well planted seed – it grew and grew and deceived and deceived – I’m sick and tired of being a liar – confuse what I need with my desire – Please Lord, quiet my soul – soften my heart and take control – lets roll – lets ride – higher and higher till we’re up in the skies – lets go – tonight – if you take me Lord I won’t put up a fight

Chorus

Verse 3:
I need to meet with the church – prioritize and make Jesus first – I probably need my just desserts – to suffer – even if it hurts – what doesn’t kill me will make me stronger – I need to learn to pray a little longer - and listen to God - and hunger – I need to wake up from my slumber – chances are I’ll get a few scars why?- I need to be reminded of who we are - I - need to shine like the stars in the sky –high - reflect the light of the sun in the night – I need to have your love and not fear it – open the Word of God and hear it – I need to trust in your Holy Spirit – let Him guide as He lives inside – I know I need some tribulation – to strengthen my faith I don’t need to be patient – to wait on God, I don’t need to be waitin’ – He’s always there for rejuvenation

Chorus

Track 21: The Clay Sheep (3:47)
Music, Lyrics and Vocals by Robert Shaver

Chorus:
You are the Potter and we are the clay
Mold us and make us and shape us today
You are the Shepherd and we are the sheep
Protect and lead us to your arms to keep

Verse 1:
Reality – check your head at the door – you’d be crazy – to go into the world – without Jesus – every boy and every girl – listen to us – we bring a message of the Lord – Clay Sheep comin at you full steam ahead – we got some rhymes to share and a message to spread – are you spreadin’ rhymes about doin time? – no no we don’t do crime – we are just straight edge brothers – trying to do the right – in the battle with the devil – we gots to win the fight – we gotta keep our hearts in heaven – footsteps in the light – focused on the future, pearly gates in sight – our hearts are stirred by a noble theme – as we recite verses for the mighty King – our tongues are the pen of a skillful writer – our lips have been set on fire – we’re hot you see clothed in majesty – as we ride for victory, truth and humility – our right hands display awesome deeds – sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the Kings enemies

Chorus

Verse 2:
They call me Rob the gun - cuz I shoot the Bible bullets – my finger’s on the trigger and I’m not afraid to pull it - so you can come at me with your swears and your curses – I’ll whip out my sword and cut you with some Bible verses – army of the Lord, Yes sir! I recruit – you better join up and you better make it soon - so ask, seek and knock on the door – you’ll be welcome in, there’s always room for more – don’t miss out though cuz that really stinks – its very hot in hell and there ain’t no drinks – so believe, repent, confess and be baptized - then come and help Clay Sheep as we fight on the Lord’s side – spread the Word so much that people getting ear aches – its rap for God, the holiest of lyrics – so get up and shout it that Jesus is the Lord – the Spirit is my shield, yeah the Bible is my sword – I said get up and shout it that Jesus is the Lord, the Spirit is inside of me, the Bible’s my word.

Chorus

Being Dad to my dog
Saturday, 31. May 2008

I had just been read a devotional about a man who had to watch doctors painfully reset his son's broken arm and the connection was made between sometimes having to watch a loved one in pain but letting it happen because we ultimately know that it is for their own good.

The very next day I woke up to the sound of one my dogs chewing on plastic. It was a medicine bottle that had previously contained about 10 pills. After calling the vet, I was instructed to feed my dog a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide. Almost as soon as I did my dog started foaming at the mouth then looked up at me with huge eyes that sheepishly said, "What did you just do to me?"

The next 15 minutes or so passed as he walked around the backyard and threw up the contents of his stomach. The puppy eyes kept giving me that look for the rest of the day though. It was pretty horrible,  the whole experience... but I was able to do it and not get too upset because I knew that even though he hated what had happened, if it hadn't things would have been much, much worse.

I am glad I am not God. But I am thankful that He loves me enough to let me go through some hard times every once in a while.

tv tricked me
Wednesday, 7. May 2008

In the beginning of April, someone broke into our house and stole some of our valuables. When the police arrived on the scene I didn't know what to think. They didn't seem too confident and had an attitude of, "There is nothing we can do, but we'll walk around your house to make you feel better." But then they called into dispatch to send the finger printer in.
I was filled with a sense of hope... even more than that I knew completely that our case would be solved and in no time we would have our things back. Why? Because I have watched CSI before. I know how the whole thing works. Even if the cops can find just a part of someone's fingerprint its practically case closed.
The long story short is that 20 minutes later the guy says to us that he cannot get anything clear. WHAT??? Of all the surfaces around the house that were definitely touched, there were no good prints? You have got to be kidding me! The kind officer then offered us the smudgy black feeble attempts as if we were 4 years old and having the unclear fingerprints would excite us to the point of maybe forgetting we'd just been robbed.

The point is in my mind, even though I know that TV is fiction, I thought maybe that's how things would be.

How many other things in life are like that - glamorized by entertainment? Then we start to believe that is how is just might be, it might be true. In the end, when we put our hope in such lies (even ones that aren't maliciously deceiving) we are always disappointed.

I'm glad that in this life I have chosen to put my hope in a much more stable entity, that is Jesus Christ.

Let's Focus
Wednesday, 2. April 2008

I've heard that some people are turned off by churches because they think, "All they want is my money." I'm sure that this is mostly an excuse for someone not interested in the other sacrifices required to follow Jesus but I think that it is an attitude that should make us question if we are doing things right.
I'm not saying that we ought to stop taking up a collection. I am definitely not suggesting we ask less of people than Jesus does. But I am questioning if we are asking the right people... the church doesn't want your money, the church wants it's own money. It wants God's money to do God things. Thus, for God's people, giving is a joy. For those who aren't God's people, it would be a burden (generally speaking).
Often, when we take up a collection of money in our services we explain, "This is a time set aside for the members of the congregation..." We hope, by doing this, that those who may be visiting do not feel obligated to give nor guilty for not giving. It is not for them, it is for us.
I suppose there could still be someone thinking, “Okay, this is not for me now, but when I or if I become a part of this group, then you’ll put your money baskets in my face and expect me to put out too!”
Well what if I started a club and my club has weekly dues. They are 50 cents per week. Would you join? What if they were 50 dollars? How about 500 dollars? You could make general assumptions and think that you are too good or too poor for my club, but most likely you’d want to find out what the benefits of the club are first.
In Matthew 13, Jesus tells several parables, but the two shortest ones pertain here:

44"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

45"Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. 46When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.

The men Jesus talked about did not sell everything on a whim. They were not gambling on a field or a pearl. They were searching for these things and when they found them, they knew that they were worth all that they had. If you said to the first man, “I’ll sell you this field for everything you own.” He’d laugh and walk away unless of course you told him about the treasure.
This person who avoids God because churches ask for money is focused too much on the cost (and honestly, money is such a small part of it). They have no idea about the reward. They are not seeking the fine pearl nor have they stumbled upon it.
Some church focus too much on the treasure and forget to talk about the cost and so people go on, excited about a treasure that they never really get. Other churches talk so much about the cost that people lose sight of the treasure and burn out and fall away. As churches, we need to have balance. We need to show searchers (and finders) the treasure and equally remind them of the cost involved in getting the field.

NEXT TIME: Who is the church for?

Creator... created...
Friday, 28. March 2008

This morning I finished the first draft of my website (www.robdagun.com). I hurried through a couple of things because I was eager to get something done that looked half decent and was functional.

I love to create. Sometimes, as in the case of this website, it takes me a lot longer than I expected. But, there is a sense of accomplishment (because it's done - kinda) and a sense of pride (because I think it looks good). As the creator, I created that site for a purpose, which I expect it to do. As it's designer I expect its layout and content to reflect who I am and what I am about.

God didn't rush through making us, just so we could get on the shelves. He took His time with us. He formed us and wove us together while we were in the womb (Psalm 139). He had a plan for us in Him before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1). If our Creator took such thought and care in forming us, as the created we ought to be our best at being what He intended for us to be and making sure that every aspect of who we are reflects the one who made us.
